Katie´s Story
Going by Tram
Katie is going to town with a friend in the afternoon. At first they have a good time. But then they get into a row with each other
and separate.
Katie takes the tram to go home. At first she is angry, then quite sad. After two stations a man takes the opposite bench. He gazes at her intently and tries to
start a conversation. Katie doesn´t like this; so she ignores him and keeps looking
out of the window. The man doesn´t talk anymore, but continues glaring at Katie. At her usual stop she gets out.
The man who has been bothering her leaves the tram too. Katie goes home, that´s a walk of
about 10 minutes. The man takes the same direction following her. Katja
is not very fond of this; but she is still thinking about the row with her
friend, so she doesn´t care. Besides, the street is busy, there are many people
and open shops - so Katie feels safe. After a while she turns into a quiet
side street. Suddenly the man is closely behind her and tries to drag her
into the entrance of a house. After the first shock she screams loud and kicks
at him. The man runs away. Katie goes home.
Katie has defended herself successfully. Yet perhaps she could have protected herself before the attack happened. What would you have done if you had been in Katies place?
