On the Market

In this competition the students are selling fruit and vegetables on a market. The loudest team will win.

Doing the exercise

The students divide into pairs.
Every pair chooses a kind of fruit
or vegetables they want to sell.
They also think up a good slogan
for selling the chosen product.

When finished, two of the pairs get started and stand facing each other. The other students are sitting in a more or less equal distance to both teams. At your sign both teams start to call out their products - as loudly as possible. At a second sign they stop and the others decide which team was the loudest. Then it is the turn of the other teams.
  Tips:
  • The name of the vegetable or fruit should be short and easy to speak - "Maracuya" or "Green Pepper" are a real drawback compared to "Apples" or "Bananas"! The same applies to the slogan.
  • Agree upon a visual sign to stop the shouting - while the teams are shouting, it will be difficult for you to give a sign just by calling.
  • The students should call out of the belly und use the breath to support the voice - if the calling comes out of the larynx, it may get shrill and make the throat feeling sore.
